NIDDP
is a 100% centrally assisted programme implemented to contain the
Spread of Goiter and other associated IDD which is a major public
health problem and directly affect the physical and Mental development
of human being and consumption of the iodised salt is the most cheapest
and effective method to contain the spread of the disease. The following
activities are undertaken under this programme.
1. Establishment of IDD cell
2. Establishment of IDD Monitoring lab
3. IEC
4. IDD survey.
IDD cell is responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring
various activities under the scheme and IDD Monitoring Lab is meant
for monitoring the quality of iodised salt samples and also for monitoring
the bio- availability of Iodine through regular collection and estimation
of urinary Iodine excretion of urine samples.
IDD day is observed every year to create awareness and understanding
about IDD and its prevention and control and also to promote the use
of iodised salt in order to prevent iodine deficiency disorders.
