National Tuberculosis Control Programme is being implemented by
integration with the general health care system. Unlike other states,
Lakshadweep has no separate infrastructure or personnel for implementing
RNTCP activities. Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme
activities are carried out through the medical officers and para
medical staff of the general health care system under the overall
supervision of Director of Medical & Health Services.
There is no separate Tuberculosis Hospital/District Tuberculosis
centres in this Union Territory. One Chief Medical Officer is trained
for RNTCP at National Tuberculosis Institute (NTI), Bangalore, is
looking after the RNTCP. As per Govt. of India instruction District
Tuberculosis Control Society is established and registered as a
society under section 3 of the societies registration act 1860(21
of 1860) on 5.8.2002. The RNTCP programme in Lakshadweep is being
implemented.
